Our Rotorua Hot Tubs

Secret Spot Hot Tubs is forest bathing at its finest. Soak in your own cedar hot tub surrounded by native ferns, overlooking the stunning Whakarewarewa Forest and Puarenga Stream. Each hot tub accommodates up to six people, with drinks delivered directly to your hot tub at the push of a button. Our Rotorua hot tubs provide an idyllic setting to reconnect with family, friends, and nature.

Your Rotorua hot tubs experience will include a 45-minute soak, as well as complimentary cold cedar plunge tubs, a locker for your belongings and a free Shinny Dip foot hot tub. Towels, swimwear, and robes are all available for hire at reception.

Our Shinny Dips

Tired legs after your forest adventure? Grab a manuka-roasted coffee or beverage and unwind with a complementary Shinny Dip – a mini cedar hot tub for your feet.
We have eight delightful Shinny Dip foot tubs that overlook our lawn, native ferns, and Revolution Creek. They’re free with any drinks purchase and available on a first come, first serve basis.

Our Water

Our Rotorua hot tubs are filled with fresh forest spring water heated to a cozy 39.9 degrees Celsius. The fresh non-geothermal water comes from a beautiful aquifer spring high in the forest and is then treated to NZ Pool Water Quality Standards with our Enviroswim treatment system. Our water has minimal chemicals and only 0.25ppm of chlorine, which is half the chlorine level of municipal drinking water.
This means our water is friendly on both our bathers and the environment.

Water in each individual hot tub is continuously filtered and refreshed during your soak. It’s ‘your’ water only – the water does not flow from tub to tub.

Our Cold Plunge Tubs

Chill out with our new ‘Brass Monkeys’ cold plunge cedar tubs. Sitting at a chilly 11 degrees Celsius, these plunge tubs are a great way to cool down during your hot soak. Hot and cold hydrotherapy is known to improve blood circulation, ease muscle tension, and reduce fatigue (great after a day on the bike!).

Meanwhile, forest bathing is a gentle, mindful way to support your body’s natural wellbeing. Time spent among trees helps lower stress hormones, reduce blood pressure, and calm the nervous system. Breathing in forest air exposes you to natural plant compounds called phytoncides, which can boost immune function and increase feelings of vitality. Many people also experience improved sleep and reduced muscle tension after spending time in nature, especially when combined with our hot tub/cold plunge experience.

The Brass Monkeys plunge tubs are located between the Funky Dunk and Chill Pill hot tubs, and are complimentary with your hot tub.

Are the hot tubs at Secret Spot Hot Tubs private?

Yes. Every cedar hot tub at Secret Spot Hot Tubs is private.

Each tub is nestled among the trees and designed to provide a peaceful, secluded experience. Whether you’re visiting as a couple, family or group of friends, you’ll have your own hot tub for the duration of your session.

Please note that because this is a natural setting, you may catch a glimpse of the hot tubs either side of you between the trees and partitions.

Complimentary cold plunge tubs are shared between the hot tubs.

How hot are the hot tubs?

Our cedar hot tubs are heated to a cosy 39.9°C.

This carefully maintained temperature is designed to help you relax while enjoying the fresh forest air, whatever the season.

Is the water geothermal?

No. Secret Spot Hot Tubs uses fresh, non-geothermal forest spring water.

Unlike Rotorua’s geothermal pools, our water is naturally clear, odour-free and gentle on your skin, making it a comfortable choice for guests who prefer a fresh water soak.

Where does the water come from?

The water at Secret Spot Hot Tubs comes from a beautiful aquifer spring high in Whakarewarewa Forest.

The fresh spring water is heated before entering each hot tub, allowing you to enjoy a warm, relaxing soak while still experiencing the benefits of naturally fresh water.

How many people fit in a hot tub?

Each cedar hot tub comfortably seats up to six people.

Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a family outing or a catch-up with friends, there’s plenty of room to relax together.
For larger groups, multiple hot tubs can be booked beside each other, subject to availability.

Is the water changed after every guest?

The water in each hot tub is continuously filtered and refreshed throughout your session.

Every hot tub has its own independent water supply, so your water never flows into another tub. Our Enviroswim treatment system maintains water quality to New Zealand Pool Water Quality Standards using minimal chemicals, with just 0.25 ppm of chlorine, around half the chlorine level found in municipal drinking water.

Because the water is constantly refreshed, each hot tub contains the equivalent of a completely fresh tub of water every 15 minutes.

Is the water treated with chlorine?

Yes, but only a very small amount.

Our water treatment system uses Enviroswim technology together with just 0.25 ppm of chlorine, around half the chlorine level found in municipal drinking water. This helps keep the water clean while remaining gentle on both guests and the environment.

Can I have drinks in the hot tub?

Yes. Drinks can be delivered directly to your hot tub during your session.

Each hot tub has a service button and QR code, allowing you to order from our craft bar without leaving the water. Choose from coffee, hot chocolate, soft drinks, craft beer, wine and a range of other refreshments.

Can I eat food in the hot tub?

No. Food isn’t permitted in the hot tubs.

If you’d like something to eat, BaseCamp Street Food Kitchen offers a delicious range of meals, cabinet food and snacks to enjoy before or after your soak.

Why are Secret Spot Hot Tubs different from other hot pools in Rotorua?

Secret Spot Hot Tubs offers a unique forest spa experience that combines privacy, fresh spring water and a peaceful natural setting.

Instead of geothermal water, you’ll soak in fresh forest spring water sourced from a nearby aquifer. Each private cedar hot tub is surrounded by native trees, and drinks can be delivered directly to your tub at the push of a button.

Whether you’re visiting after a day of sightseeing, mountain biking or simply looking to unwind, Secret Spot Hot Tubs offers a relaxing nature experience just minutes from Rotorua city centre.
